After last weekend's Penn State National Meet, the men and women's track and field teams continued their solid efforts with another great performance at the Carolina Heels Challenge in Chapel Hill. The meet consisted of 14 different teams, including Appalachian State, Duke and North Carolina. Though no records were broken, it was overall a great meet for the Demon Deacons as there were 11 top 5 finishes as well as several individual records broken.

On the women's side, in the 800-meter run, the Demon Deacons grabbed the top three positions, with senior Adralyn Wendel coming in first with a time of 2:14.95. Following her performance was junior Kara Mullin in second, who ran a personal best, and junior Anna Sherman in third. Their finishing times were 2:15.95 and 2:16.19, respectively.

Also performing well on the women's side was sophomore Cassy Richards, who set a personal best of 25.73 seconds for fifth place in the 200-meter dash and captured fourth place in the Long Jump with a jump of 18 feet, 4.5 inches. Also contributing in the field events was senior Elizabeth Washam in the pole vault. She set a personal best with a mark of 11 feet, 1.75 inches, which was good enough for 14th place.

For the men, redshirt sophomore Patrick Ladapo ran the 200-meter dash in 22.21 seconds, which was good enough for second place.

Freshman Eric Seely sprinted to a third place finish in the same event with a time of 22.25 seconds. Seely finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.64 seconds.

Also performing well for the Deacons was Josh Gattis, who came in fourth place in the 60-meter dash hurdles with a time of 8.52 seconds. He also captured 12th place in the 60-meter dash, while Ladapo finished just before him in 11th place.

Performing well in the field events were senior Fabian Davis and junior Luke Orman. Davis placed in fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 45-feet-9.25-inches. Orman took third place in the Long Jump with a jump of 22-feet-4.5-inches and also made a 6-feet-6-inch jump for sixth place in the high jump.

Head Coach Annie Schweitzer-Bennett was pleased with her team's showing at the event.

"I was very happy with how we performed and our efforts, even though the results don't really show it," Schweitzer-Bennett said. "We are definitely showing a lot of promise and our progression is right where it should be."

Next up for Wake Forest is the Virginia Tech Invitational Feb. 14-15, which will feature track and field teams from the University of Tennessee, James Madison University, University of South Carolina, University of Virginia and North Carolina State.
