ACC
football wrap-up (No. 22) Florida St 31, (No. 11) Florida 14
The Florida State Seminoles upended their in state rivals Florida, in Tallahassee on Nov. 30. While the Seminoles won the ACC and are guaranteed a spot in a BCS bowl, it has still been a rough season for the team. By winning this game, Florida State gained much needed pride, and avoided becoming the first BCS team with five losses. Chris Rix, who returned as the starting quarterback after Adrian McPherson was dismissed from the team this week, threw a pair of touchdowns to lead the Seminoles. The Seminoles also got an unexpected spark from true freshman Leon Washington, who rushed for 134 yards on 26 carries. Florida continued it woes in Tallahassee, as they have not won at Doak Campbell Stadium since 1986. Former coach Steve Spurrier went 0-5-1 there. Florida will need to win its bowl game to keep its SEC-record streak of 12 consecutive nine-win seasons alive.
(No. 19) Virginia Tech 21, Virginia 9
Lee Suggs led the Virginia Tech with 108 yards and two touchdowns as the Hokies beat in-state rival Virginia, winning the Commonwealth Cup. Kevin Jones added 91 yards on the ground, as the Hokies gained 272 total yards. The Hokies were in the national title hunt until a three-game losing streak, all to Big East teams, but snapped the slump against the Cavaliers. For Virginia, freshman Wali Lundy continued his outstanding rookie campaign with 127 yards rushing. The Hokies won the game by flexing their defensive muscles, holding quarterback Matt Schaub to 43 yards on 12-23 passing. This was the fourth-straight Commonwealth Cup for the Hokies. Virginia is most likely headed to the Tangerine Bowl, while Virginia Tech is likely headed to the Insight Bowl. The Hokies however, can still be a factor in the BCS, when they play Miami next weekend. A win there would restore respect, and shake up the BCS picture for the rest of the country.
