D'Antona homers Diamond Deacs to series win

As if Deacon baseball needed proof that they were on fire. The streaking Deacs stopped, dropped and rolled over No. 21 North Carolina from April 5-7 at Hooks Stadium. The series climaxed with a dramatic rubber game, and in the end, the Deacons (25-6 overall, 8-3 ACC) iced out victory and catapulted to No. 5 in the country - the highest rank ever for a Demon Deacon baseball squad.

In his preface to the magazine's top 20 roll call of stadiums, arenas and courses, SI writer Richard Hoffer suggested that appropriate descriptions of the sites that followed were best summed up by no description at all; on behalf of the SI staff, he offered only this: you had to be there.

Men's golf garners No. 2 spot

The Demon Deacon men's golf team kept rolling this past weekend at the Cleveland Golf/Augusta State Invitational in Augusta, Ga., Playing at the 6,840-yard, par 72 Forest Hills Golf Club, the Deacons turned in one of their best scoring efforts of the year to finish in second place for the second straight tournament.

Women's track posts several personal bests

The Demon Deacon women's track and field team sent members to both the Duke Invitational in Durham and the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., April 5-6. Nine Deacons set personal bests during the weekend. These kind of peaking performances were what Director of Track and Field Annie Schweitzer-Bennett was looking for from her athletes at this point in the season.

Deacons wrap up spring practice with Spring Game

While this April has seen unusually cold weather, one rite of spring came as scheduled, as the Demon Deacon football team held its annual Spring Game April 6 at Groves Stadium.
