gives university $2M grant

The university received nearly a $2 million grant last week from the
Lilly Endowment Inc.
The grant was awarded to the university through aninitiative called
Programs for the Theological Exploration of Vocation, in
what the Endowment calls an effort to bring highly educated, talented
people into ministry.

back to the United States after facing an emergency evacuation following

Mission
background brings new outlook to college life

Though the Baptist State Convention recently severed most ties with
the university, religious and ministerial groups still play a large
part in campus life. As a part of its religious culture, the university
is enriched by many students whose parents are involved in full time
ministry. A number of these students parents are missionaries
in foreign countries, and the children of these missionaries bring vast
experiences and immensely different world perspectives to our community.

speaks at SG General Assembly

The Student Government met for its bi-weekly General Assembly on Nov.
27, when committees and executives reported their most recent work,
vice president of finance and administration John Anderson spoke and
four new bills were called and passed.
'Brian's
Song' remake memorializes alumnus

A newly remade version of Brians Song will be shown as part of
the Wonderful World of Disney program on Dec. 2.
The new film, based upon the 1971 Emmy Award-winning television movie,
recaptures the inspirational life of Demon Deacon and Chicago Bears
football player Brian Piccolo and his friendship with teammate Gale
Sayers. The movie recounts their relationship as it evolved from roommates
to respected rivals, and finally, to best friends until Piccolos
premature death to cancer at age 26.
