Sisco outdistances field to capture first at ACCs

Junior Nathan Sisco won the 2001 ACC Individual Championship as the Deacon cross country teams competed in the ACC Championship meet on Oct. 27 in Greenville, SC. The men finished second out of the nine ACC squads and the women finished sixth. It was just another week in a year of impressive performances for Sisco. It came as a surprise to neither Sisco or men’s head coach Gary Sievers.

Deacons stomp Tar Heels, jump to No. 7

Nothing could be finer than beating Carolina.
The Deacons proved this traditional adage in front of a packed Spry Stadium on Oct. 27 as they upset sixth-ranked North Carolina 4-2, as the homecoming crowd of over 1,800 was dazzled by the offensive stylings of ACC Player of the Week and sophomore forward Jeremiah White.

Oh my: Deacs down Turtles, Wolves and Tar Heels

The Demon Deacon volleyball team increased its winning streak to four after most recently upsetting ACC-leading North Carolina as well as defeating N.C. State and Maryland in the past week. With these victories, the Deacons improve their record to 15-8 overall, 8-5 in the ACC.

Deacons turn in strong showing in final fall fling

The Deacon men’s tennis team hit the courts this past week at the ITA Region II Championships at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The tournament marked the last event of the fall season for this team, which once again looked to improve on individual records in singles and doubles while gearing up for the spring season.

Rally falls short as Clemson clips Demon Deacons

The Demon Deacons suffered another close loss Oct. 26, falling to Clemson 21-14 at home. The setback puts the Deacs’ record at 3-4 on the season, 1-4 in the ACC. Next up for the Deacs are the University of Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesvill at 12:10 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Deacs smoke foes in readying for ACC Championships

It was a day of gratitude for the Deacon field hockey team as seniors Katie Kubic, Jennie Shelton and Jemima Cameron were all honored in the Deacs’ senior day against University of Pacific on Oct. 28. In addition, former standout forward Jenny Everett, ’01, was in attendance as her jersey, No. 1, was retired.

Deacs place second in S.C.

Junior Nuria Clau finished second and sophomore Deborah Means placed fourth as the Demon Deacon women’s golf team captured a second-place finish at the Lady Paladin Invitational, held Oct. 26-28 in Greenville, S.C.

Deacons douse Flames

The Deacs fell to the Duke Blue Devils 2-0 on October 27 at Koskinen Stadium in Durham. The Deacs matched the Devils shot for shot but could not finish up. Senior forward Emily Taggart led the Deacs with five shots on goal but Blue Devil goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir managed to shut down the Deacs despite their efforts. The Deacs fell to 8-6-1 and 3-3 in the ACC and dropped in the rankings to 24th, while Duke improved to 7-8 overall and 2-5 in the ACC.
