Three players awarded pro contracts to football teams
Three former Deacon football players have signed pro contracts following last weekend's NFL draft.
After going undrafted last weekend, three Deacs have signed professional football contracts. Senior wide out Thabiti Davis signed with the Carolina Panthers earlier this week. Following in Davis' footsteps, seniors David Zadel and D'Angelo Solomon signed professional contracts as well.
Zadel, an outside linebacker, signed with the Dallas Cowboys, while Solomon, a defensive back, signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.
Davis was a four-year starter and letterman for the Deacs at wide out and in the top 10 all-time for catches and receiving yardage. Zadel was a three-year starter and letterman for the Deacs. He proved his versatility as he played both linebacker and defensive end during his colegiate career. Solomon was a three-year starter and letterman as well and a second team All-ACC selection in 1997.
Solomon has also consistently been one of the Deacon leaders in tackles since his sophomore year.
Tim Duncan earns all the honors in rookie season
Tim Duncan '97 has proven to the rest of the world just why he was the number one pick in the NBA draft a year ago.
In just one short year, Duncan has done what almost no other NBA rookie has ever done but always dreams of. Duncan was the only rookie to receive rookie of the month honors, as he won the award every month this season -- a feat that has only been accomplished twice before. Duncan has also been selected to represent the United States in the World Championships this summer in Athens, Greece. Duncan is considered to be a unanimous pick for rookie of the year honors.
