According to senior Tina Schippers, Student Government president, she is that lucky. But the luck does not spring from the creation of the lottery system. "First off, we didn't create the lottery system, the ticket office did," she said. "They are in charge of it. We just help out."
"We do enter the lottery, but since we volunteer to help pass out tickets, we're sitting right there, so a lot of times (the ticket office representatives) just take care of our tickets first," she said. "But I never get my tickets that way, except for the last ticket pickup - you can ask (ticket office director) Judy Cunningham." Schippers added that anyone who volunteers to help the ticket office with the ticket lottery and distribution can receive their tickets right before the lottery process begins, just like the SG members who assist in the process.
Schippers said that because she is a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, she gets her tickets with the Kappa block. "Seniors get first priority out of all the tickets we get in the Kappa blocks, and because I'm a senior, I get good seats," she said.
Do Campus Police officers have a quota for giving out parking tickets? --N.A.
"Contrary to popular belief, there is not a quota for us
or for the Winson-Salem Police Department," said Campus Police Chief Regina Lawson.
There may not be a quota for tickets, but the frequency of parking tickets issued per semester is over twice the number of cars registered to park at the university. Last semester, parking management issued 3,686 parking decals and cited 8,389 parking violations.
I recently saw the trophies being taken out of the trophy cases in the gym. What are they doing with them? --B.A.
According to Becky Ward, the assistant to the athletic director, some of the trophies in Reynolds Gymnasium will soon be transported to the new Bridger Field House football facility by Groves Stadium. Right now, the administrative staff of the athletic office is preparing the trophies for their new home by taking a complete inventory.
The new three-story Bridger Field House, complete with new locker rooms, ticket office, Deacon Shop and athletic offices will replace the old, outdated Bridger Field House that was built in the 1960s. The new building will also house a university sports museum with trophies, plaques, certificates and memoribilia collected from coaches and the athletic archives.
"We don't know exactly what we're going to do," Ward said. "Right now we're unlocking the trophy cases (in Reynolds Gym) and taking photos of the trophies so we can start an inventory in order to make a determination of what seems appropriate to put in Bridger and what to leave (in Reynolds Gym)."
