Students lined up April 12 for an early chance to sign up for the fall 2007 Screamin’ Demons. Sign-ups took place at 6:30 p.m. on the football practice field behind the Miller Center.The sign-ups followed the football team’s spring practice game, which ran from 4-6 p.m. on the practice field.

“Get ready to paint it black with our ACC Championship Demon Deacon football team this season,” said junior Tiffany Ingold, public relations chair for Screamin’ Demons, in an e-mail to the Screamin’ Demon listserv. The e-mail reflected the theme for next year’s football season, “Paint it black.” Despite the football team’s unprecedented success last season, this was not the first time that Screamin’ Demon sign-ups were held in the spring, Ingold said. Ingold hopes that having spring sign-ups will help alleviate the massive lines at fall sign-ups, when new freshmen are also registering.

“Sign-ups were held last year at the spring game for football and it worked out really nicely. When the fall comes around, the freshmen can have more of a sign-up of their own, and upperclassmen who have been through sign-ups and know what to do will have already become members,” Ingold said.

A fairly large number of students registered ahead and sign up for fall’s Screamin’ Demons. According to Ingold, ”Students may wonder whether or not they will have to wait in the long freshman lines in the fall if they missed last week’s sign-ups.

“Due to the rather short notice allotted for this past sign-up, we will more than likely have another day when students who were unable to be there for the first sign-ups can come and fill out a contract if they wish to do so before the fall,” Ingold said. “This will most likely be on Friday, April 27 at the Screamin’ Demons cookout before the baseball game against Duke.”

There has been some concern that there will not be enough spots for everyone who wants to sign up for Screamin’ Demons.

However Ingold said, “There will be enough spots for everyone this year. We are not anticipating capping football seats as of right now. Therefore, every Screamin’ Demon that wants a seat should have one as far as we can anticipate for now.”
